Dental Implants in Colombia

Who places them, which brand, and how long it actually takes.

Who does what, before anything else

The implant itself is placed by an implant surgeon who works with this practice. Dr. Daniel Fernando García plans the case and does the restoration on top — the crown or the bridge you actually see and chew with. Those are two different jobs, done by two people who each do a lot of one of them, and we would rather tell you that on the first page than let you assume otherwise. If a website tells you one dentist personally performs implant surgery, periodontics, root canals and cosmetic work, either the practice is much larger than it looks or the website is not being straight with you. Ask this question everywhere you are comparing; it is one of the fastest ways to tell a real clinic from a booking agency with a logo.

Which implant, and why

Straumann. It is one of the systems with the most published long-term clinical follow-up and with parts available years later, which is what matters when a crown has to be replaced a decade from now — especially if you will be living in another country by then.

This matters more for someone flying in than for a local patient. If you need a part replaced in five years, a widely used international system can be serviced by a dentist near you. An unbranded implant cannot, and that is a real cost you would only discover much later. Ask any clinic abroad which brand they use, and write the answer down.

How long it takes

An implant is not a one-visit treatment, here or anywhere. The implant has to integrate with the bone before a final crown can be loaded onto it, and that biology does not care about your flight schedule. In practice this means either two trips or one long stay, and which one depends on your bone, your case and whether anything has to be treated first.

You will be given a specific plan at the video consultation, before you book flights. Be careful with anyone who promises implants and final crowns in a single week without having seen an X-ray of your mouth — that is either temporaries being sold as finals, or a shortcut you do not want taken with your jaw.

When we will not place an implant

Two situations stop the plan. Both are usually solvable, and both are solved first.

Uncontrolled diabetes

Treatment does not start. Healing is compromised and the risk of an implant failing or the gum not closing is high. The diabetes is brought under control with your own doctor first, and the dental plan resumes after that.

Active gum disease

You are referred to a periodontist first. Nothing holds on an inflamed gum or on bone that is actively being lost — not a veneer and not an implant. The gum disease is treated, the case is reassessed, and only then is the cosmetic plan decided.

Cost and payment

This page does not publish a per-implant price, because the practice has not fixed one to publish. Putting an invented figure here would be worse than the gap: you would plan a trip around a number that changes the moment someone looks at your X-ray.

El tratamiento se paga por etapas, al terminar cada fase, repartido en el número de citas que tenga tu plan. Payment methods are tarjeta de crédito, efectivo, transferencia, and there is no in-house financing.

Warranty

Todos los tratamientos tienen garantía. El plazo no es el mismo para todos: depende del tratamiento y del material, y se te entrega por escrito con tu plan.

Questions patients ask

Who actually places the implant?

An implant surgeon who works with the practice places the implant. Dr. García plans the case and does the restoration on top — the crown or the bridge that you actually see. This is worth saying plainly, because the two jobs are different and a practice that claims one person does everything is either very large or not being straight with you.

Which implant brand do you use?

Straumann. It is one of the systems with the most published long-term clinical follow-up and with parts available years later, which is what matters when a crown has to be replaced a decade from now — especially if you will be living in another country by then.

How long does the whole process take?

An implant is not a single-visit treatment anywhere in the world: the bone has to integrate with the implant before the final crown can be loaded onto it. That means more than one trip, or one long stay. How long in your case comes out of the assessment, and you should be told before you book flights, not after.

How much do dental implants cost in Colombia?

This practice does not publish a per-implant figure yet, and inventing one would be worse than saying so. What can be said is that Colombian prices are a fraction of US ones for the same brands and the same protocols. You get an actual number at the video consultation, before you commit to anything.

Can I have an implant if I have gum disease or diabetes?

Not until those are under control. Both are the two situations where this practice does not start, and both are usually solvable — but they are solved first. It is better to hear that on a video call than after landing in Medellín.

What is the warranty?

Todos los tratamientos tienen garantía. El plazo no es el mismo para todos: depende del tratamiento y del material, y se te entrega por escrito con tu plan.
